The first time I was paid to write software was in 1996, and it was using Microsoft Access ’95. Folks can diss on it all they like, but it taught me things like the relational model, reusable modules, and basic UI design. And for some uses and some contexts, I posit that it might still be the right (or at least, not a wrong) choice.
