This is a transcript of a talk that I gave at a Pride event held by PDX Women In Tech (PDXWIT), a Portland, OR based non-profit that “exists to encourage women, non-binary, and underrepresented people to join tech and support and empower them so they stay in tech.”. The topic of the event was “The Intersectional Roots of Pride”. If and when a recording of that becomes available, I’ll link it here as well.

Update: Here’s a link to a recording of my talk.

I’m Daelynn Moyer, pronouns she/her. I’m an Engineering Manager at Zapproved. I’m really honored to be here tonight. Since I’m going to be talking a bit about privilege, I also want you to know that I’m also a white, middle-aged, married, middle-class, transgender, lesbian, employed white-collar professional with the authority to hire and fire people. In addition to privilege, you should know that I’m going to talk about some other potentially triggering topics like racism, crime, shame, trauma, and physical violence.

When PDXWIT originally asked me to take part in this event, they asked me to talk about my pandemic experience.. What was it like? How was I coping? Why is it hard?. So I sat down and wrote a frank and honest story about my experiences through this crazy time, and the ways in which my transness was a part of that story. I’m not going to lie…. it was a good story.
