Tomorrow is International Intersex Awareness Day and I promised a friend I would share some info with y’all. This is a terribly under-served and under-recognized community, and I’m glad to have a voice I can use to shed some light on them. Even today, intersex children and babies are often surgically altered, sometimes without the consent or knowledge of the parents. That sets folks up for a lifetime of confusion and anguish about who they are. Here’s what the United Nations has to say about it:

I hope that you’ll take a few minutes to read up on the intersex community and the intersex experience. Their stories are often ones of pain and betrayal, and also ones filled with joy and love of self.
