Lastly, I have no plans to change my name, at least not any time soon. Although many people see Ellie as an inherently feminine name, it could also be a man’s name. Joyce Carol Oates’ famous short story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been,” published in 1966, features a male character named Ellie. While it’s not exactly common, I choose to take that as a sign that my name could be gender-neutral.
